Ideas / Concepts / Proposals

Here i have Photoshoped my creation into two possible environments.
Linear forms influenced from visit IWM
IWM

I tried making a home made projector however it didn't work as well as i hoped.
The idea was to project this abstract video that i recorded last week onto the wall/installation.

These paper card creations aim to adopt IWM's irregular layout. i want to make the viewer question perceived space and forms. Using reflective paper would be the next step in  the development.
using different colored lights could also add a new dimension.

  1. These are a great start to interpreting your experience and responses to IWM. Reflect on our discussion about the use of a shelf to present your resolved outcomes. Does the shelf have to be solid - it could just be a wire frame which holds your models, a acting as a transparent support. Objects do not just have to sit on a shelf - they could hang from it or PROTRUDE from the underside. Try to marry what you actually experienced and your subsequent thoughts including things which remind you of the work other "creatives" have done that inspires you. Your thoughts will be in a state of flux - lots of things to seduce you - but try to identify the thread which joins them all. This is not a simple task but should be an objective so do not be too concerned if the outcome is not totally clear - we are looking for a direction not necessarily a clear outcome.

  2. Do spend some time taking photographs which explore the effect of light on you models - shadow, reflection (perhaps cover some faces with the mirrored card you have) Also consider colour - use paper which is white on one side and coloured on the other to make your objects (card from cereal boxes could be used). This will help give contrast to the objects - inside different from the outside, plain / colures surface. You could also consider adding texture - crumpled paper stuck to the surface using Pritt stick?

  5. The assessment on Monday is the Exploratory stage assessment. The work I have asked you to do in order to conclude "The New Vernacular" project is intended to enable me / staff to evaluate your ability to meet the intended learning outcomes. We both know you have not generated an adequate amount of work this term but this is an issue for ongoing discussion. In summary you should bring all the work from all the projects undertaken this term - this should include "the alternative image making" project , "Text, signs and symbols" and "Site and Scale" project. In addition your journal and sketchbooks should also be submitted. In the circumstances we do have to take all things into consideration by asking the questions "where are we now?" "Can we get to where we should be?" " do you have the understanding, willingness and ability to exploit the resources made available to you?"
